Tucked away at the end of Montgomery Street; a non descript lane in the heart of Richmond, the alterations to this single storey cottage into a double storey dwelling for a growing family presents itself as small formal gesture.  

 

However its small appearance conceals a spacious and light filled interior, an ode to simple living and maximising space.

 
The use of cedar paneling to its upper floor extension with its distinctive formal gesture, is a contemporary nod to the heritage character of the existing cottage.  A minimal palette of materials is carried through internally to assist in amplifying the space but also create a clean and crisp background for the resident’s decor.
